The Best Dad

There's something amazing about the partnership of parenting. You're eyes meet in mutual amazement as your baby does something new and there's comfort and closeness in the knowledge you share the same overwhelming love for this tiny human. Getting to experience someone's character as it evolves into a parent is special.

Scotty loves her daddy. She's most happy if she's outside "working" on projects with him and gets sad when she can't be climbing on wood and tools. His silliness and tricks make her light up and so does him walking through the door when he gets home from work.

Getting spirited away to Lowes, being tossed around, taking boosted stroller rides and given freedom to roam the yard all give her the well-rounded "dad" side of growing up I could never give her.

I didn't really have expectations for how involved David would be, but he blows me away with his patience and love for her and I. He's not afraid to change a diaper or spend time with her when I'm away. It's easy to be the mom to his dad.

Once right when she turned one, Scotty was sitting her high chair while David was on a work call. She's gotten really good at repeating words back to us as we coach her to name things. As David said things like "good" and "okay" into the phone Scotty would repeat them without coaching. Because anything Daddy's doing is worth doing.

Fathers play an irreplaceable role in children's lives and David plays an irreplaceable role in ours. He's the absolute best.
