Camelback 2019

Thursday, May 30, 2019

Before you skip this post because you see pictures from this exact same vacation every single year, let me sell you by saying I didn't get any pool pictures so that should mix stuff up- ha!

This year we drove to Kanab and stayed the night and then drove to Scottsdale the next day. When I handed Scotty the barf bucket, she immediately used it in a different way instead.

Our assumption that Scotty would be the only barf culprit was totally inaccurate. Russell took that prize, throwing up three times on the way to Kanab (a five hour drive). Scotty didn't throw up or even say she felt car sick this trip. We cleaned Russell up in Nephi, Cove Fort and finally at the hotel with a much needed bath.

I saw online that it's fun for toddlers to have different snacks in muffin tins on a road trip. Scotty liked it... Russell barfed into it when it was his turn.

But he's still the cutest little drooling, runny nosed cherub around.

We did some of our usual traditions: the guacamole demonstration at the restaurant "Rita's Kitchen." We devoured fresh guac while I devoured the updated design that made the southwestern vibe wayyy more modern and gorgeous. I couldn't get enough of the new tile and I'm 95% sure all the new seating is Serena and Lily.

David was similarly impressed with the interior design in the bathrooms in the new conference building where we had large family gatherings. So much so that he was texting me pictures- ha!

Another fun, new thing is they did is a slip and slide. Scotty went down once but mostly wanted to play in the pool of water at the bottom and not slide down again so David took her to the main pool.

Thursday night at the train park consisted of the usual: battling Scotty over eating her dinner, then playing at the playgrounds and the traditional last train ride.

I used the cookie and playing on the playground as motivation to eat her Cafe Rio quesadilla.

Russell, however, needed no motivation to eat and ran around the playground with David very happily.

Scotty got to hold her own ticket for the train. She was pretty excited about it this year after seeing all the pictures of the train from last year.

Scotty rode with Grandma and Grandpa again this year.

20 weeks pregnant with baby girl here. Can't wait to see what our crazy crew looks like next year!

She woke up every morning (at 6am) asking for Grandma and Grandpa- she knows the hands who spoil, haha.

It was fun hanging with cousins as usual! We were missing a lot this year but got to enjoy playing games with the ones who were around.

Russell is one busy dude- he would just go, go, go until he went down in his pack n play in the tiny dark closet bedroom we lucked out to have in our room.

Scotty was similarly busy and enjoyed every second of the parks/pools.

My mom and Aunt Becky enjoyed sister time, especially shopping for houses for my parents one morning.

I was kind of sunburned after a full day outside on Friday, so I suggest taking Scotty to her very first movie Saturday morning after the entire family ate breakfast at Village Inn. My family hung out in the room while Russell took his morning siesta.

We saw the live action Alladin and Scotty wasn't heavy enough to keep the theater seats from folding so she sat on David's lap. David was a genius and got popcorn which was good because she didn't have quite the attention span to make it through the entire thing. She told us she was done at the climax about 10 minutes before the movie ended. But she liked the undivided mom and dad time.

Saturday felt long and was the hottest day so we did our best but these guys got a little grumpy in the afternoon.

Luckily they rallied for Ralph & Laura Bryson Saturday night dinner on the patio by the pools. They ate their weight in pizza and strawberries and ran around.

Then we headed over to Bryson family feud where the Ralph- Beth - Bob clans faced off in family history/ Camelback trivia.

On Sunday we enjoyed listening to family members' talks and the evening testimony meeting. It's so lovely to connect over what's most important. It's so funny but staying at a five star resort having fun with family really makes you feel like this is what eternity could be- fun, beautiful, luxurious, Gospel, family time.

And it wouldn't be Camelback without roughhousing with dadda on the bed!

This is the best man right here- family vacation superstar who was amazing at helping the kids in the car and getting us where we needed to be.

My amazing photographer cousin Leslie had just had a baby exactly a week ago so we did a silly photo shoot instead when we'd usually do a real one with her:

Scotty took a few of these pictures because she wanted to do what mom was doing.

We drove straight home on Monday and it was a tender mercy that Russell only tossed his cookies once. It really wasn't that bad and I think I want to just drive straight through both ways next year.

All in all another successful year and it makes my heart happy to have my babies at Camelback loving the things I loved as a kid. **Closes blog post by belting "TRADITION! TRADITION" in my best Tevye impersonation**
